8th April 2020, Call to Ashdown Forest for search for high risk missing male. Joint search with SussexSAR, KentSAR and Lowland Dogs who had been searching since the 7th.  With Covid-19 prevalent we had 20 SCST searchers attend. It was a very hard search in rough terrain and hot weather. The Missing person was found by Kent Search and Rescue. Unfortunately the same male went missing again some weeks later this time in the Tunbridge Wells area. SCST was not involved in that search and he was sadly found deceased by a member of the public.

16th April, Call for volunteer drivers for PPE transport. SCST had 34 Volunteer Drivers for a Volunteer Driver Team providing delivery with their own vehicles.

We have made a small number of deliveries of scrubs which were made by volunteers in Eastbourne to NHS establishments.

2nd July, SCST did a search for knives and other possible weapons on behalf of Sussex Police in 4 parks within Worthing. We searched together with a police presence and found a large kitchen knife and scissors which had been hidden under low branches in Homefield Park. We provided 15 searchers. We have carried out similar weapon searches for hidden weapons in Worthing, Hastings, Lewes, Newhaven and Seaford resulting in a number of finds with the aim of making these areas safer to the public.

16th July SCST did 2 more searches for hidden weapons this time in parks at Shoreham - By - Sea. Items were found and removed by Sussex Police.

24th July, Safety Sweep Bognor Regis. 2 parks searched, police were led by Sgt.Darren Pickering. 2 pointed kitchen knives were found with the blades buried in the earth with just their handles showing. 

31st July, Safety Sweep Hove. I Park (St.Annes Park) searched. Searchers were taken from their car parking to the location by police carrier (minibus). No knives were found and the police support was led by PC Barrett. 

ALSO

A Safety Sweep at Southwick. 2 parks and also the rear of Southwick shops were searched on the request of Sussex Police after 40 youths who were reported causing trouble and a knife was seen being dropped down a drain. No knives were found. Police support was led by Sgt.Darren Pickering. 

Just completed 3 days (11-13th August) of Safety Sweep searches in conjunction with Sussex Police of parks in Brighton, Crawley and Horsham. Members of the public were very happy to see us and had nothing but praise for our work.

26th August call out for High Risk Missing person in Brighton. We were eventually stood down when the police gained further information and downgraded the risk category of the missing person. The missing person was subsequently found in Saltdean at 07.00 am the 27th confused and wearing no shoes.

30th August, Safety Sweep in Brighton at Pavilion Gardens and New Steine. Police support was provided by PC Alec Barrett.

Quote from Sussex Police "Officers also conducted a safety sweep of several locations in Brighton on Sunday 30 September using the Sussex Community Search Team and removed harmful items from the streets including two knives."

3rd September, Safety Search at Hastings, items removed which could be used as potential weapons. Searchers were supported by Sussex Police officers. 

6th September we did a Safety Search in Worthing , more potential weapns were removed to make these areas safer.

8th September, A Safety Sweep in the  open park areas of Broadfields, Crawley with more items being removed.

12th September, A Safety Sweep in The Salts Recreation Ground, Seaford.

This was the fourteenth Safety Sweep we have made this year.

We have now completed more than 500 man hours of searching in East and West Sussex on behalf of Sussex Police and fully supported by their officers.
